Unstoppable Sebastian Priaulx Storms To Stunning Double Oulton Park Win

1st Central racing driver Sebastian Priaulx proved his class with a sensational performance in the Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Championship at Oulton Park this weekend (20/21 May), with a dominant performance earning him a glorious double victory.

Despite heading into the weekend on the back-foot compared to his rivals after missing Friday’s free practice sessions as he sat important GCSE examinations, the sixteen year old would firmly establish himself as the class of the field across the meeting in Cheshire.

Making up for lost time, Priaulx would storm straight to the top of the timesheets in Saturday morning practice, a performance he would go on to repeat in style in qualifying later that day despite earlier rainfall giving them a damp circuit to contend with.

A blistering lap time of 1m 47.227s in the tricky conditions would secure Priaulx pole position for Sunday’s opening race by nearly two tenths of a second, whilst his next best effort would be enough to give him a front-row start for the second encounter as well.

The reigning Ginetta Junior Winter Series champion would make his advantage count in Sunday’s opening race, with a sublime display in front of the live ITV4 television cameras seeing him pull three seconds clear of the field within just four laps.

After adding another second to his advantage, Priaulx would maintain the gap to the chequered flag with a composed drive to complete a lights-to-flag success – a performance he would go on to repeat in race two later that afternoon.

A fantastic launch off the line would move him into a race lead that he wouldn’t relinquish, with stunning pace in his JHR Developments Ginetta G40 seeing him set the fastest lap of the race on his way to a superb five second victory.

Sebastian Priaulx: “What a weekend it’s been. We’ve been the fastest car in every session and I’m going home incredibly happy with a pair of race wins under my belt. I can’t thank my sponsors and family enough for all their support!

“It was a tough week before the meeting, the exams really take a lot out of you mentally and having to switch my focus back to racing on Friday evening was difficult. Missing free practice wasn’t ideal, so I couldn’t have been happier with our pace out the box on Saturday.

“To convert the front row start into two lights-to-flag victories was incredible. It certainly wasn’t easy, I had to work hard to build the gap in both races and it was much closer in race two, but we took the wins and it is without doubt the best race weekend of my career so far.”

Priaulx’s sensational Oulton Park display came following the disappointing news on Sunday morning that he has been excluded from the Thruxton meeting over an apparent technical infringement. More information on this can be found by clicking here.
